THE CONSEQUENCES OF SILENCE

Martin Niemoller after the Second World War said, “in Germany they first came for the communist
Then they came for the trade unionist and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the catholic and I didn’t speak up because I was a protestant.
Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak”.
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist, then they came for the Jew and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Niemoller’s message is the consequences of silence in the face of oppression and bad governance.
A people that watch in cold silence as their government ruins the state cannot build a great nation.

Nigerians must realize that its not the function of our government to keep the citizens from falling into error. It is the function of the citizens to keep the government from falling into error.
We have boxed ourselves to a sad corner due to the silence we have allowed to grow.
